Air Berlin Alexanderplatz (ABA) is an artist-founded initiative that promotes collaboration in the creation of art and the exchange of knowledge between artists, researchers, scientists, musicians or representatives of various fields and institutions. It was founded in 2009 by artists Susanne Kriemann and Alexander Komarov.

Main projects:

ABA explores new and innovative ways to interact with art: the one-hour Air Salon broadcast every third Tuesday of the month on Colaboradio at Freie Radios Berlin, the book showroom in a container on Alexanderplatz, a text-file-sharing space that allows artists to access curated reading material and interact with text, VHS-Salon for sharing video in a group environment, and WON Salon, a program that focuses on alternative narratives about the environment and sustainability in a politically charged event. ABA's activities include the development, organization and delivery of various events and presentation formats.

Causes of occurrence:

• Today, when the majority of communication is done online, often between people who will never meet and always with the threat of being monitored, ABA strives to create spaces where people can freely express their ideas in a comfortable, aesthetically stimulating environment and be met with immediate, face-to-face responses. The border between the public and private spheres is blurred as like-minded strangers come together in the streets, parks, and apartments of Berlin, the entire city becoming a living room, where history is already pressing in from all angles. Whether you are joining us as an attendee of our frequently held salons, an artist-in-residence, or as a reader of one of our publications, your attention is already a contribution to the development of ABA as a safe, cooperative space where artists, curators, designers, theorists — and anyone who is interested — can come together in support of each other’s endeavors.
