Articles on KALEKTAR

"Verasen" became one of a number of creative communities that emerged both in the Union of Artists and in the informal environment during the 1980—1990s, when the forms, concepts and further ways of developing national art in Belarus were changing and actively discussed.

The association brought together artists who showed themselves in easel graphic series in watercolor, autolithography, drawing and watercolor, as well as in magazine and book graphics, posters.

The artists of "Verasnya" strove for a philosophical content with a lyrical plot, literary and cultural associations, combining both the romantic pathos of the "severe style" and the idea of a dialogue between the artistic languages of the 1970s.

"Verasen" is primarily focused on preserving the most important idea of the significance of the professional, moral and aesthetic value of art outside of political involvement and mass taste.

Despite the diversity of stylistics, teachers and personal preferences, the general principles of creativity for the representatives of the group were their attitude to reality, the combination of modern expressive forms with the traditions of classical aesthetics and the relationship with national folklore.

Although initially "Verasen" was mainly an association of graphic artists, many representatives also realized themselves in various areas of creativity — watercolor and oil painting, scenography, design, applied art, and teaching.

Representatives of the association constantly participate in various art projects and plein airs, hold personal exhibitions in Belarus and abroad.

For many years "Verasen" has formed its "own image" and certain exhibition traditions. Reporting exhibitions are held every two years and differ in thematic and technical diversity — from realism and expressionism to symbolism and abstraction, from oil painting to drawing and printed graphics.
