Leningrad Art Association. This group was not officially registered and existed only on the words of its members. The leading core of the artistic group consisted of former members of the UNOVIS association and other students of Malevich.
In their work, the members of the Group of pictorial and plastic realism were engaged in the development of the ideas of Suprematism. All meetings of the group members took place at the apartment of the artist Vera Ermolaeva.
In the period from the beginning of December 1934 to the end of January 1935, a series of arrests of members of the "Plastic Realism Group" took place, the following were detained: Vera Ermolaeva, Lev Galperin, Vladimir Sterligov, Nina Kogan, Maria Kazanskaya, Oleg Kartashev, Alexander Baturin, Nikolai Yemelyanov , Simon Fix, Georgy Schmidt, Pavel Basmanov.
Kazanskaya, Kogan, Emelyanova, Fix, Schmidt and Basmanova were released after several trials, but all the other detainees were found guilty of propagating anti-Soviet ideas with the help of art and trying to organize a pro-Western intelligentsia around themselves, for which the artists were sentenced to terms from 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.
Some artists were in the case of "pictorial and plastic realism" only as witnesses: Lev Yudin, Konstantin Rozhdestvensky and Vasily Vlasov. Some people believe that these three "broke in" their bandmates so that they themselves would not be imprisoned for their activities.
