Closed to the Public

Marina Naprushkina 2023

The fundamental right to asylum has been tightened in recent decades, with fewer and fewer people being able to rely on it. One has to struggle through a complicated asylum procedure. Between 2013 and 2019, Marina Naprushkina has been observing the asylum procedures at a Berlin court (Berlin Administrative Coart in Moabit) and documenting them in the form of drawings and text. For the exhibition, Marina produced a series of posters showing quotes of questions judges posed to plaintiffs and institutional interiors of the court building in Berlin Moabit, where the asylum hearings are taking place. The wall display shows some texts and visuals from the book, Closed to the Public.
