repulsat.ps

Oleg Yushko 2008
Special installation with lenticu lar image, 120 x 240 cm

repulsat.ps - anagram of last supper (Last Supper). (The ending "*.ps" can be interpreted as a PostScript file.) This lensed image consists of thirteen frames intertwined into a single composition. The work was specifically designed for the space in which it was exhibited, and its composite shots were filmed there. The space with the black window became the stage for a new version of the Last Supper. During the exhibition, the black window was closed and repulsat.ps was displayed instead. Thirteen actors were invited to film. Their movements were staged in a sequence of thirteen poses for thirteen frames and divided into three steps: from a position of concentrated attention (the first pose-shot), the actors moved to recreate the composition of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper (the seventh pose-shot), and then returned to starting position (thirteenth pose-frame). Moving through the installation space, the viewer cannot recognize individual frames of the sequence. The entire composition constantly changes depending on the position of the viewer.
