March 27, 1986

Born in Minsk (BSSR, today the Republic of Belarus).

From 2003 to 2007 he studied at the Glebov College of Arts. At the beginning of his career, he was greatly influenced by the American artist Willem de Kooning.

In 2011, Zakhar Kudin arrives in New York, where at that time a Willem de Kooning retrospective was taking place at the MoMA. The artist lived in the US for two years as an illegal immigrant, working in a studio and hitchhiking across Central America. The artist talks about this American period in detail in an interview with kyky.org.

Since 2005, he has been one of the active representatives of the young generation of contemporary Belarusian art.

Zakhar had a visual defect, for the preservation of which he paid for a surgical operation in the USA with his works. He said the following about the disease: “I lost sight in one eye, and when I look with my left eye at an object that I have not seen before, and it is not fixed in my brain, I look at a total abstraction. I don't even know what I'm looking at. It is this delay, the resulting pause, that gives an idea of some almost parallel dimension in which I am. Although it is still the same existing reality. Based on this, I formed an art: when you look at my objects, at first you don’t understand what you are looking at and how to perceive it” [1].

About “neuro-art”, the artist said: “Neuro-art is objective realism or impact painting. Impact art. When we look at my work, it is brand new, meaning the form is designed in such a way that it has not been recreated by anyone. I build forms based on space, see how they interact with it, really change it. The form itself turns out to be a new window” [2].

In 2019, the artist played a major role in Maksim Shved's film "Pure Art", a film about how he creates a series of paintings based on the practices of Minsk ZhES workers who paint graffiti, drawings and graffiti on the walls of buildings with geometric spots (an ironic term for this phenomenon was given art critic Olga Arkhipova as 'Fuprematism'). The film participated in the Falling Leaves Film Festival and received the Best Director award at the Artdocfest International Film Festival in Riga. One of the works of the series was included in the collection of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
