Alexei Ivanov

Artist, painter. One of the teachers of the children's creative studio Wostrau.

In his geometrically rigorously calibrated and very concretely color-coordinated paintings, the artist depicts the empty space of Minsk. In an attempt to understand the essence of the place, he frees the architecture from the decor, numerous windows and doors, leaving the very "body" of the city. Sometimes the heroes of his work are semi-abstract figures integrated into the urban landscape.

The artist about the image of Minsk in his works:

I have a twofold attitude towards Minsk. On the one hand, this feeling of closeness to the city, born through endless walks, as a result of which a mental map of the place appeared. On the other hand, there is a feeling of Minsk as a “non-city” that has not become a city or has lost this quality. The theme of "alienation" of architecture from man and from civilization in principle appeared. Minsk is called a "clean city". But sometimes this purity comes to a paradox, creating a feeling of sterility and emptiness. The city begins to lose its depth. Becomes purified, cold and concrete. In my opinion, this is its essence.
