Big family

Anna Bundeleva 2014 – 2015

Author's description of the project:

Family photos have always attracted me: I liked to look at the faces of distant relatives, captured at a time when they were still children. After all, now I perceive all my relatives as adults - in the pictures there are some completely different children. The archive has its own magical aesthetic, a visual language that we have lost.

The tree is the universal symbol of life. It is subject to gravity, disease, death. In ancient times, it was considered as a real totem pillar. In the forest, I feel the soil slipping away from under my feet, and something pagan is growing inside.

The forest is an accurate metaphor for kind. Behind him, as behind every person, are crowds of others. Being among the trees, I very clearly feel my "non-loneliness". Contact with this inexplicable "supernatural" is wildly exciting.
