Born in Gorki (Mogilev province of the Russian Empire, today Mogilev region of the Republic of Belarus).

He spent his childhood and youth in Vitebsk . Member of the Civil War on the side of the Red Army.

1921-1922

He studied at the Vitebsk Artistic and Practical Institute with Yudel Pan, then with Kazimir Malevich. Member of UNOVIS.

1922-1925

He studied at the Petrograd (then - Leningrad) VKhUTEMAS .

Since 1922

Lived in Leningrad and worked at the Lenfilm studio. Production designer for more than twenty films, including: "Man overboard" by I. M. Berkhin (1931), "Fedka" by N. I. Lebedev (1936), "Anton Ivanovich is angry" by A. V. Ivanovsky (1941) , "Tiger Tamer" by N. N. Kosheverova and A. V. Ivanovsky (1954), "Mr. X" by Yu. O. Khmelnitsky (1958) and others.
