Born in the village of Kochany, Myadel district (BSSR, now the Republic of Belarus).

Graduated from the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts).

1967-1998

He taught at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts.

1978

He was awarded the title of "Honored Worker of Arts of Belarus".

1989-1997

He was the rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. In this post, he was notorious for his uncompromising repressive policies, which caused dozens of students to be expelled from the university.

1997-2009

He was the director of the Museum of Contemporary Fine Arts in Minsk (now the National Center for Contemporary Arts).

1991

Was awarded the title of People's Artist of the BSSR.
