Aliaksandr Danilkin

1996

The work of Alexander Danilkin reflects on the topic of modern politics, power relations, death. His prism is the history and cultural cataclysms of Belarus. Even during his studies in Minsk, the artist spoke out against the state system and tried to fight the censorship introduced by the university. After the presidential elections of 2020, he took an active part in the protests, after numerous threats from the rector of the Academy, he was expelled for opposition activities. Danilkin was forced to leave Belarus to maintain his safety.

In his works, the artist returns to social and personal experience, uses folklore and historical elements of domestic art as a way of defining, searching for and expressing the true "Belarusian self". His arsenal includes a rich set of techniques: painting, oil monotype, assemblage, sculpture, site-specific installations, ready-made.

Lives and works in Wroclaw, Poland.

Thanks to my activities in Poland, I am able to fully enjoy the freedom that was denied to me for so many years.
