Born in the village of Zabela, Slutsk district (Russian Empire, now the Republic of Belarus).
He studied at the icon painting workshop of P. Kurbatov (Minsk). He studied at the art school in Warsaw, the Higher Art and Technical Workshops in Moscow ( VKHUTEMAS), where he was influenced by modern art, including constructivism. He did not receive any special art education.
1920s
He worked in the Minsk art and production workshops "Fine Arts", and also worked as an illustrator for the magazines "Dawn of the West" and "Maladnyak".
Since 1921
Participated in exhibitions.
1925
Participant of the 1st All-Belarusian art exhibition.
1928
Among four Belarusian artists, he presented his works at the International Bookplate Exhibition in Los Angeles.
Since 1928
He was a member of the association of artists "Pramen".
1941—1945
During the Great Patriotic War, Pavel Gudkovsky remained in German-occupied territory. To save his son Nikolai from punishment for helping Jews, Gudkovsky collaborated with the German occupation authorities - he worked as an engraver in the editorial office of German newspapers published in Minsk.
March 3, 1945
He was arrested for “collaboration with German authorities during the occupation” and was sentenced to 10 years of correctional labor with confiscation of property.
1954
Released from a correctional camp.
1956
Rehabilitated. After liberation, he lived in Belarus until his death in 1962.
