Born in the village of Bartniki, Grodno province (Russian Empire, now Baranovichi district, Republic of Belarus) in a noble family.
Raphael received his primary education at the Basilian school in the parental estate of Volna, Novogrudok district, then continued his studies at the Jesuit school in Polotsk.
1820
He entered the law faculty of Vilna University. At the same time he attended the Vilna Art School, studied with Jan Rustem and Kazimir Yelsky. While studying at Vilna University, he was a member of the underground societies of philomaths and philaretes.
1826-1829
He worked as a manager at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in St. Petersburg. In the capital, he met the artists Alexander Orlovsky and Vincent Smokovsky, and became friends with the poet Adam Mickiewicz. He began to create his first portrait medals.
1830
At the request of his father, he returned to the Volna estate (near Vilna), where he collected a rich art collection.
May 20, 1881
He died in the Lyubavas estate, not far from Vilnius.
