At the beginning of 2019, in an official response to a request made by the Belarusian Union of Designers, the Ministry of Culture of Belarus stated that the activities of holding exhibitions are not intellectual and cannot be considered creative. Using this episode as an example, researcher Anton Barysenka reflects on the current status of cultural workers in Belarus and critically examines several structural fault lines and tensions in contemporary cultural policy in Belarus.
