The main universal scientific library of Belarus and a modern socio-cultural center.
The library has a gallery and exhibition complex designed for exhibitions and presentations of new expositions. This includes five halls with the names: "Atrium", "Labyrinth", "Panorama", "Mobile Gallery" and "Foreshortening". The total simultaneous capacity of paintings is about 300. Two galleries "Labyrinth" and "Rakurs" constantly hold art exhibitions. All visitors have the opportunity to explore the fund through virtual exhibitions.

There is a department of culture in the structure of the national library. The choice of cultural projects, based on the department of culture, seeks to update, to coincide with an event or holiday.

1922

The National Library of Belarus (NLB) was founded by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR as the Belarusian State and University Library of the Belarusian State University (BSU).

1926

The library was withdrawn from the Belarusian State University and reorganized into the Belarusian State Library.

1932

The library was named after I. Lenin. In the same year, the library received a new building by the architect G. Lavrov in the constructivist style.

1941

The library fund had more than 2 million volumes, the number of readers was 15 thousand people. Its further development was interrupted by the Great Patriotic War. At the time of the liberation of Minsk, only 320,000 copies of the library's two million fund survived.

1992

The State Library of the BSSR named after V. I. Lenin was renamed the National Library of Belarus. By this time, it became necessary to build a new building for the library.

2002

Construction was started not far from the Vostok-1 residential area and the Vostok metro station. About 5 thousand specialists took part in the construction.

2006

The new building of the National Library was solemnly opened.
