Born in the place of Kalyuzhitsa, Minsk province (Russian Empire, now the Republic of Belarus). The artist's childhood years were spent in Slepyanka (now a microdistrict of Minsk). Later he studied at the Polotsk Jesuit Collegium.
1818—1824
Studied at Vilna University under Jan Rustem.
1821
At Vilna University, the artist met Adam Mickiewicz.
From 1824
Studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Later, the artist returned to Slepyanka again.
After 1830
The artist became interested in historical subjects.
1839
Went abroad.
1840
Participated in an exhibition in Munich, also visited Dresden and Berlin.
September 15, 1841
He came to Paris and settled in the house of A. Mickiewicz.
May 12th, 1842
He died in Paris of tuberculosis.
Since 2000
The house-museum of the Vankoviches, a branch of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, operates in Minsk. Archival documents and photographs of Valentin Vankovich's works (there are no originals) are exhibited in the halls of the museum. Most of the exhibits were borrowed from museums in Warsaw. Near the estate there is a monument to the artist.
