Georgy Nissky

1903 – 1987

Artist, painter, one of the founders of the harsh style. The main direction of Georgy Grigorievich's creative activity was landscape painting.

A classic of Soviet painting, holder of the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR, he also worked a lot in graphics, winner of many awards and prizes, the main subjects of his paintings are industrial landscapes or marine paintings.

The artist’s works are in the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, as well as in most major museums of the former USSR.

Lived and worked in Moscow.

Born in the village of Novobelitsa near Gomel (Gomel district of the Russian Empire, now the Republic of Belarus).

1919

Nissky's studies begin at the Gomel Art Studio named after M.A. Vrubel, where A.Ya. became his mentor. Bykhovsky.

1921

The artist entered preparatory courses at the Higher Artistic and Technical Workshops (VKHUTEMAS). After completing the courses, he switched to the painting department.

1930

He graduated from the Higher Art and Technical Institute (VKHUTEIN), his diploma work was “Internationale at Gilles-Barthes”. The revolt of French sailors in Odessa in 1919”, dedicated to the Black Sea mutiny (the work was acquired by the Tretyakov Gallery immediately after its defense).

1931

He was in the Separate Red Banner Far Eastern Army, designed wall newspapers, made posters and panels.

Since 1935

He began collaborating with the magazine "Murzilka", its graphics were printed on the covers.

1937

Bronze medal at the World Exhibition in Paris - for the painting "Sevastopol. Meeting" (1935).

During the war he remained in Moscow.

1951

Stalin Prize of the third degree - for the paintings “Off the Shores of Dalniy”, “Landscape with a Lighthouse”, “Port of Odessa”.

Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts.

Received the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR.

He died in a nursing home. He was buried in Moscow at the Kuntsevo cemetery.
