The art project "Names" - in support of the media project of the same name, launched in April 2016 - started in Minsk in May 2017, and in September 2017 was presented in Vitebsk. More than 3,000 people visited the exhibition during its work.

For six months, 10 contemporary Belarusian artists communicated with the heroes, about whom the media project “Names” wrote. The result of this interaction was a large-scale art project, which features 10 installations that reveal important social topics. But most importantly, the art project “Names” is the result of joint work, a movement towards each other by a large number of caring people: artists and curators, journalists and experts, representatives of public and private institutions.

“When we started working on the exhibition project, we primarily started from the media project “Names” itself, from its spirit, goals, and influence,” Antonina Stebur and Anna Karpenko, curators of the exhibition, note. We asked ourselves questions. What unites people? And what separates them? It seems to us that “Names” is a media project, the purpose of which is to form a community that can be described as a community of people who care. These are people who are united not just by the fact that, say, they travel in the same public transport. The connections between the characters, readers, and the team of this media project are much stronger; they are built on interaction and mutual assistance. “Names” show us that this kind of connections are formed not vertically, but horizontally. The whole exhibition is built on three ideas - these are the ideas of interaction, mutual assistance and community.”

The works of 10 project participants are presented in Brest in the form of documentation, photographs, partial installations and interactions. Thus, in the KX Space Gallery, the viewer can see the paintings of 25-year-old Pavel Rashchinsky, who learned not only to type text on a computer with his toes, but also to draw; hear the audio diary of the artist Kirill Dyomchev, who tied himself to the bed with straps for two weeks, in order to understand how a person feels, who, due to a serious illness, cannot control his body, remaining in fact his hostage; to hear music in the way that hearing-impaired people perceive it in the installation of Olya Sosnovskaya; find out what lies at the heart of any community, thanks to the work of Sergey Shabokhin.

Project participants: Sergey Shabokhin, Masha Svyatogor, Kirill Demchev, Maxim Yasinsky, Sergey Gudilin, Hutkasmachnaa Art Group, Olya Sosnovskaya, Antonina Slobodchikova, Andrey Lenkevich, Alexander Vasyukovich and Daria Tsarik.

The main goal of the Names project is to build a community of equals and differences. After all, civil initiative does not come down "from above", it depends on the specific actions of each of us.
