Everything was different

April 13, 2016
NCCA, Minsk

Selected Artwork Series

The project "Everything was different" is based on the non-coincidence of history, document and memory. The authors interpret the idea that objects, images and texts are equally unreliable. Can the document that remains with us as evidence be reliable? Does memory keep a mold of an event or does it constantly transform it, adapting it to reality?

The exhibition presents photographs, installations, objects and text works by artists living in Belarus, Belgium, Poland. The boundaries between private and public (Igor Savchenko, Vladimir Parfyonok), fragments of the Soviet era (Igor Tishin, Alexander Tsekhanovich), popular culture quotes (Mikhail Gulin), the elusive "here and now" (Konstantin Selikhanov, Natalia Zaloznaya, Marina Sobovska), conventionality death (Antonina Slobodchikova, Tatyana Radivilko) becomes material for artistic expression.

The public program of the exhibition is focused on critical reflection on the role of contemporary art in the modern world and is aimed at direct interaction with the viewer. As part of the project, lectures on contemporary Belarusian art, master classes, meetings with artists and interactive events were organized at the NCCA for a wide audience, inviting viewers to actively participate.
