-ology is a collection of 206 questions posed by 61 artists and received over 8,000 responses from the public.

As an international project, -ology strives to highlight the practices of a wide variety of artists working today. By bringing together the ideas and themes of individual artists, we hope to present a cloud of ideas that is indicative of the contemporary artistic environment. -ology strives to give everyone the freedom to analyze and draw their own conclusions about what this cloud of ideas means to us all.

  • This is an international project that aims to reveal the working methods of artists working today. By bringing together the ideas and themes of individual artists, we hope to present a cloud of ideas that reflects the contemporary artistic landscape.

Much of the -ology project is presented online, and an exhibition consisting of a visual overview and extended dialogue of the project was held at the Amstel 41 gallery in Amsterdam from December 7 to 21.

  • We believe that this project allows us to see the ideas that a variety of artists are exploring. -ology strives to give everyone the freedom to analyze and draw their own conclusions about what this cloud of ideas means to us all. We believe that sharing the ideas that artists work with is challenging, inspiring and enriching for everyone. -ology is a platform on which ideas expressed by artists can be understood by the public.

  • We invited artists to consider several questions that address conceptual or topical issues related to their practice. For each question, artists were asked to provide possible answers. These questions and answers have been compiled into an online questionnaire that anyone can view and respond to.
