Anatol Tychyna

1897 – 1986

Graphic artist, founder of the Belarusian colored linocut.

He worked in easel, magazine and book graphics, in various graphic techniques, mainly in color linocut, as well as in oil painting. Created ex-libris. Motifs of the traditions of folk art appear in his work, one of the main themes is also the theme of Minsk, the artist devoted many works to figures of Belarusian culture, sports and the nature of Belarusian reservoirs.

Lived and worked in Minsk.

Born in the place Grudzhay, Kovno province (Russian Empire, now Lithuania).

1915-1917

He studied at the Penza Art College.

1918-1920

The artist moved to Omsk, where he studied at the art school named after M. Vrubel.

From 1919

Participated in art exhibitions.

1920s

He was a member of the Art History Commission at the Institute of Belarusian Culture, collaborated with the Museum of the Revolution, prepared the Slutsk Belts album for publication, illustrated books and articles devoted to the study of national culture for colleagues, made covers for the first Belarusian books and magazines in BelGIZ, went on expeditions, worked in the archives.

1920-1940s

The artist created more than 20 bookplates.

The artist died in Minsk.
