The Ministry of Culture of the BSSR was created by combining five departments - the Ministry of Cinematography, the Committee for Arts, the Committee for Cultural and Educational Institutions, the Committee for Radio Information and the Department for Printing Industry, Publishing and Book Trade.
1957
The Ministry was allocated the Committee on Radio Broadcasting and Television under the Council of Ministers of the BSSR.
1967
A musical repertoire commission has been created.
1971
A scientific and methodological council for the protection of cultural monuments appeared.
1977
A state artistic and expert commission on works of fine and decorative arts has been created.
1984
By order of the Minister of Culture, the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments was established as part of the Department of Museums and the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments.
1992
After the abolition of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, the ministry became a republican one, henceforth reporting only to the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus. The new status of the ministry was fixed by the Law of the Republic of Belarus.
1994–1995
The ministry was called the Ministry of Culture and Press of the Republic of Belarus. After the ministry was reorganized and divided into the Ministry of Culture and the State Committee of the Republic of Belarus for Press.
2005
The Department of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus was created within the structure of the Ministry.
