Brutalism is an art direction that uses exaggeration and distortion to create the effect of massiveness or strength. The works are characterized by visual rudeness or cruelty of the plot.

The movement began after World War II. In addition to the artist's total conversion to abstract expressionism, many other authors have found a way to react to traumatic events in the form of brutal art. Themes of violence, depictions of war, any emphasis on power.

Official Soviet art also fits the definition of brutal. Ideological posters and works of socialist realism vividly show the strength of the Soviet people, soldiers and leaders.

Belarusian artist Mikhail Senkov, known under the pseudonym A.R.Ch., works in the author’s technique “academic art brut”. Mikhail's work literally brought back the theme of death for Belarusian art. It captures life in the world of death, shows another universe, speaks of destruction. In his paintings, complex relationships are established between the executioner and the victim, in which the spectator participates.
