Museum and (non)format: modernist, imaginary, post-museum
The second episode of – part of the initiative of the same name to create an open public museum of contemporary art in Belarus – was released today on the Spotify, Yandex Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Castbox platforms.
The name symbolically reflects the idea of openness and multilingualism. Open Muzej is not only a project, but also a process that involves the professional community and the general public in the process of understanding contemporary Belarusian art. The podcast covers a wide range of topics, ranging from unique local stories to global trends, providing listeners with a comprehensive and in-depth overview of the events that form the unique context of contemporary Belarusian art here and now.
The second episode of the Open Muzej podcast discusses the formation and evolution of the concept of “museum” in modern conditions. The focus is on how museums meet the challenges of our time and the search for alternative forms and content.
Guests of the episode: , curator and researcher, , art historian and curator, member of the Open Muzej working group. Together they share many examples of the variety of approaches and formats used by museum institutions in Belarus, Ukraine, the USA and France.
Topics discussed include the prospects for modernizing museums, the potential of virtual and visual collections, and the post-museum phenomenon. Oksana and Irina share their knowledge and experience, considering the possibilities of development and transformation of the museum sphere.
Subsequent episodes will explore new aspects such as the role of museums for communities, museums as possible structures of solidarity and support.
