Ferdynand Ruszczyc

1870 – 1936

Artist, graphic artist, theater artist, teacher, professor and public activist.

He was a student of Professor I.I. Shishkin, and after his departure from the Academy continued his studies with the famous artist Professor A.I. Kuindzhi. For some time he has been teaching in Krakow, was a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In Poland and Lithuania the name of Ferdynand Ruszczyc was given to the places where he lived and worked, in his native Bogdanov and Minsk streets were named in his honor and memorial plaques were erected.

He lived and worked mainly in Poland, at the end of his life due to illness he moved to his native Bogdanovo.

Born in the village of Bogdanovo (Vilna Governorate, Russian Empire, now Volozhinsky District, Republic of Belarus).

1883 - 1890

He studied at the Minsk State Classical Gymnasium.

1890

He studied at the Faculty of Law of the St. Petersburg Imperial University.

1892 - 1897

He studied painting under the guidance of Ivan Shishkin and Arkhip Kuindzhi at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts.

1897

He presented three paintings for the graduation exhibition - "Evening Star", "Tritons" and "Spring" - received the title of artist.

1899

First exhibition in Vilna.

1900

He entered the circle of members of the society of Polish artists of modernist orientation "Sztuka" (Art).

1902

Participated in the exhibition "World of Art" in Moscow.

1903

Organized an exhibition of the "Sztuka" society in Vilna.

1904 - 1908

He taught painting at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow.

1918 - 1919

He took part in the organization of the department of fine arts at the Stefan Batory University and was its first dean.

1921

Became the organizer of the first official exhibition of Polish artists at the Grand Palais in Paris.

1932

Became seriously ill and lost the ability to speak and write with his right hand. Moved to Bogdanovo.

1935

He was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Stefan Batory University.

October 30, 1936

He died and was buried at the family cemetery in Bogdanovo.
