Anna Sokolova

Media artist.

In her work, Anna Sokolova explores the interaction between architectural space and the moving image.

Another important aspect of her work is the transformation of text into a work of art; how objectivity (text form) and subjectivity (message) in the understanding of the text affect the way it is perceived.

The most famous work of Anna Sokolova is the series "Ornament": using the same video element - a white stripe on a black background (the artist herself refers to this visual element as a linement) - she creates dynamic structures that, penetrating into the exhibition space, transform it. Continuing to explore the possibilities of the created video element, Sokolova tests it as a new media, and, placing it on her own flag, formulates a manifesto of artistic sovereignty and formal aesthetic autonomy.

Lives and works in Düsseldorf.
