Born in Krakow (Rzeczpospolita, now Poland).
Studied under Dominik Estreicher at St. Anne's Lyceum in Krakow.
From 1786
He studied painting with Francysk Smuglevich in Warsaw.
1790—1792
He painted portraits of Hugo Kollontai and other prominent public and political figures of Poland commissioned by the magistrate of Old Warsaw.
1793—1812
He traveled a lot, often staying in Vilna, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Belarus — in Vitebsk, Mogilev, Minsk and Nesvizh.
1807—1810
He was the court painter of Mikhail Radziwill in Nesvizh.
1810
Receives a Master of Fine Arts degree from Vilna University.
1813
Returned to Krakow.
1816—1818
He taught art theory at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
From 1818
He headed the department of painting and drawing at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts.
1831
Became director of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts.
September 4th, 1831
Died of cholera in Krakow.
