Open Muzej: public, horizontal, nomadic
The first episode of the — part of the eponymous initiative to create an open public museum of contemporary art of Belarus — was released today on the Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Castbox platforms.
The name symbolically reflects the idea of openness and multilingualism. Open Muzej is not only a project, but also a process that draws the attention of the professional community and the public to the process of understanding contemporary Belarusian art. The podcast covers a wide range of topics, from local stories to global trends, providing listeners with a comprehensive and in-depth overview of the events that shape the context of contemporary Belarusian art here and now.
In the first episode of the Open Muzej podcast, its host, cultural activist , talks to the working group of the project, which initiated the creation of a public museum of contemporary art of Belarus. The creators of the project – co-founders and , art critic and curator Irina Kon, co-founder and editor-in-chief of the portal . In the course of the conversation, the need to create a museum based on democratic values, the preservation and access to cultural heritage in the conditions of the geographical dispersion of Belarusians are discussed, such challenges as the limited visibility of Belarusian art in the global context and the fragmentation of the professional environment are touched upon. Note that the Open Muzej project was created on the basis of volunteers. By launching the podcast, the creators invite discussion, participation and cooperation in the implementation of this initiative.
